Khépri

Khépri - Boucheron
Boucheron's artisans brought the magic of the scarab to life, revealing the sacred animal's mysterious subtlety.

The scarab is a universal symbol of rebirth and protection. A protective talisman, scarabs were often worn as amulets as they were thought to contain the essence of eternal love.
In Ancient Egypt, Khépri was a sun god who was reborn every morning at dawn. He was depicted as a man with a scarab’s head or as a scarab pushing the sun before it like a trophy.

The vivid colors used for the head and the upper wings creates an unusual contrast with the translucent body, which is made from from gadroon-shaped quartz (the art of glyptic).

The diamonds used to create the neck of the scarab symbolizes strength, while the gradation of yellow sapphires reflects the delicacy and fragility of the lower wings.

The watch’s mother-of-pearl face done in marquetry, with its gradations of blue and purple, represents the dawn, which in turn symbolizes rebirth, purity and hope.
