The Art of “Simplexity"

The Art of “Simplexity" - Bovet 1822
Focus on the Virtuoso V

The ‘watchmaking scales’ played by Bovet are sometimes complex, like the classical music scores much loved by the CEO of the Manufacture. Yet the fact that certain pieces assert themselves as self evident is generally because they are both richly detailed and rigorously disciplined. An easily remembered melody is often more elaborate than it seems – and this Virtuoso V is far more complex than its display suggests. Bovet uses a resolutely pared down aesthetic vocabulary to convey essentials: a retrograde minutes hands and aperture type jumping hours. The case back reveals even more demanding mechanics: the user can display on demand, a second time zone coaxially symmetrical with the first, an ingenious construction that can be read at a glance. The power reserve remains a Bovet strong point: five days, also indicated on the back. Finally, while the Virtuoso V cultivates the appearance of a classic timepiece, its case is anything but – it is made from titanium, featuring the lightness and sturdiness of the most modern creations.
