Mademoiselle, Threading its Way Through Time

Mademoiselle, Threading its Way Through Time - Chanel
Focus on the Mademoiselle Privé Pique-Aiguilles Lace Motif

A pair of scissors suspended from a ribbon around her neck like a sautoir necklace, a pin cushion strapped to her wrist, Gabrielle Chanel weaves her way between patterns and fabrics. The scene takes place in her workshops on Rue Cambon, at a time when Chanel’s watchmaking business did not yet exist. Yet the legend of the woman known as Mademoiselle lives on today through the Mademoiselle Privé watch collection.

With each new edition, the brand’s watchmaking design studio picks up her story and sometimes even details of her private life, telling them through the prism of the boldest artistic crafts. Sculpture, engraving, “Grand Feu” enamel and gemsetting evoke the designer’s creativity in an array of five extremely refined watches. It’s all about quilted handbags, gold chains and pearl jewelry, padded jackets, tweed, lacework composed of camellias – Mademoiselle’s favorite flower – and dainty diamond embroidery. A wealth of symbols revisited in a spectacular setting, at the heart of a huge 55mm case in gold and blackened titanium topped by a sapphire crystal reminiscent of a dressmaker’s pin cushion.
