Naturally perfect timing

Naturally perfect timing - Chaumet
Chaumet combines the purity and fragility of nature with the complexity of the jeweller’s art to produce two unique timepieces.

The Maison Chaumet has always sought to convey a vision of nature that is exuberant, generous and vivacious, employing its technical virtuosity to charm and delight. During Paris Haute Couture Week in early July, Chaumet presented a highly individual vision of nature, based around the maison’s four iconic themes: laurel, wheat, oak and lily. These four motifs, all associated with the ancient gods, hark back to the company’s original sources of inspiration, and offer new ways for Chaumet to interpret its own history.

Oak: Feuillage Eternel

The Feuillage Eternel watch is based on the theme of the oak leaf. The sacred oak tree is the emblem of Zeus, king of the gods and wielder of lightning bolts. This strong and imposing tree is revered for its strength and its long life. It was believed to link the heavens with the earth, and its Olympian majesty is deftly captured in Chaumet’s lustrous watches and jewellery.

This watch is part of the Feuillage Eternel collection. The five pieces in the watch and jewellery ensemble capture the concept of divine purity, with their complex but remarkably lifelike graphical composition. The set includes a bracelet, two rings, a pair of earrings and the cuff-style “secret watch”, which conceals the watch face behind a delicately furled oak leaf.

This breathtakingly beautiful timepiece, in white gold set with brilliant-cut diamonds and fitted with a Swiss quartz movement, combines two symbols of immortality: the diamond and the oak.

Wheat: Offrandes d’été

Wheat, a gift from the gods to mankind, is a symbol of life’s bounty, representing the joy of harvest time. The ears of wheat are also a reference to Chaumet’s creations for the French Empresses Joséphine and Marie-Louise, a marker of savoir-faire and recognition that dates back to 1780.

The nine pieces in the Offrandes d’été collection are an ode to the summer wheat harvest, the diamond-studded ears bursting with ripe grains. A necklace, tiara, three rings, a brooch, two pairs of earrings and a precious watch complete the set.

The dial of the timepiece is half-hidden behind ears of wheat, blown in the breeze. Nature lovers are sure to be seduced by this ethereal watch in white gold, set with brilliant-cut diamonds and fitted with a Swiss quartz movement.

In addition to these two jewellery watches, each of the themes has its own flying tourbillon watch in white gold set with brilliant-cut diamonds with a mother-of-pearl dial. The four watches in blue, red, pink or white are driven by a hand-wound Swiss mechanical tourbillon movement, and their baseplate and upper bridges are worked with lily, oak, wheat and laurel motifs.

These pieces are a paean to nature and, in Chaumet’s own words, tell the “fabulous story of Parisian High Jewellery, born in 1780, with the lightness of hand and deceptive simplicity that defines its style.”
