Five Chopard watches are in the running for the 2016 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.

Chopard has entered five watches in the GPHG and all of them have been preselected by the jury, and remain in contention within their respective categories. They are the L.U.C XPS 1860 (Men’s Watch), the Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition (Chronograph), L.U.C Perpetual Chrono (Calendar), the Precious Chopard Watch (Jewellery) and the L.U.C XP 35mm Esprit de Fleurier Peony (Ladies's Watch). The results will be announced at the prize-giving ceremony on 10 November.

L.U.C XPS 1860

The elegant L.U.C XPS 1860 is a tribute to the very first watch in the L.U.C collection, the L.U.C 1860, which was unveiled 20 years ago when the Chopard Manufacture was originally set up. With a thickness of 7.2 mm, the timepiece can definitely be classed as extra-slim, and there is a small seconds at 6 o’clock. It is driven by the automatic 96.01-L calibre, the first movement created by Chopard Manufacture, wound by a solid 22K gold micro-rotor. Its Twin technology ensures a 65-hour power reserve. Like all L.U.C watches with a seconds hand, the L.U.C XPS 1860 has been awarded chronometer certification by the COSC, as well as bearing the Geneva Hallmark.

Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition

Chopard’s partnership with the legendary Mille Miglia race has given rise to a collection of sports watches instantly recognisably by the red logo of the motor race on the dial. For the first time in its history, this watch now comes with an in-house movement, the COSC-certified 03.05-C calibre. The column wheel chronograph offers hour, minute, seconds and chronograph functions along with a date window, and a generous 60-hour power reserve. As the “XL” label would suggest, the Mille Miglia 2016 XL Race Edition chronograph has a hefty 46 mm case diameter, making this the largest Mille Miglia chronograph Chopard has produced.

L.U.C Perpetual Chrono

The L.U.C Perpetual is a manually-wound chronograph with perpetual calendar, COSC-certified and bearing the Geneva Hallmark. The masculine 45 mm diameter case is made of ethically sourced 18K Fairmined gold. Mechanically, the L.U.C Perpetual Chrono is driven by the L.U.C 03.10-L calibre, a column wheel chronograph movement with vertical clutch and flyback mechanism. In addition to the sport-oriented chronograph functions, the perpetual calendar delivers the practical functions of day, date, month, leap year, day/night indicator and moon phase.

Montre Precious

Traditional jewellery meets watchmaking savoir-faire: Chopard’s master craftsmen have combined their talents to produce the Precious Chopard Watch in white gold. It is set with an exquisite combination of pear-cut blue sapphires, brilliant-cut pastel sapphires and white diamonds, creating a delicate lacework effect. Around the dial, matched baguette-cut sapphires surround a dainty corolla evoking a floral motif in snow-set sapphires and diamonds.

L.U.C XP 35mm Esprit de Fleurier Peony
In the Ladies’ watch category, the L.U.C XP 35mm Esprit de Fleurier Peony highlights an increasingly rare artistic craft: fleurissante engraving. This ultra-thin watch (7.5mm) with a 35mm diameter case uses the self-winding calibre L.U.C 96.23-L, which has a power reserve of 65 hours. The peony is the symbolic flower of Greek and oriental mythology and is found engraved on the movement and on the dial in pink Tahiti mother-of-pearl, studded with gold and diamonds. The rose-gold case of this limited edition of eight pieces, set with diamonds, is paired with a brushed pink fabric strap.
