A bold design and top-tier mechanisms in travel-inspired shades: the Klepcys GMT Ocean Blue and Klepcys GMT Palm Green put a fresh spin on the Klepcys GMT Retrograde, developed by Jean-François Mojon. Released in 2020, it introduced not one but three milestones for the brand: its first in-house manufactured movement, a new 42mm diameter and 100-metre water-resistance.
Colourful
Three years on, as spring comes knocking at the door of Watches and Wonders, Cyrus drops two 38-piece limited editions of its now famous Klepcys GMT, both of which are high in colour and content. The palm-frond openworked dial throws back the curtain for the mechanical action behind the scenes. Kitted out in refreshing Ocean Blue or Palm Green, applied by atomic layer deposition (ALD), it offers a spectacular three-dimensional show, and a clear view of the contrasts and finely worked details at the heart of the movement. Retrograde hand, avant-garde design
While the distinctive design of these two new Klepcys may be what first gets your attention, these watches are about function. Cyrus has opted for central hour and minute hands to show local time on large Arabic numerals, with a coating of Super-LumiNova for easy readoff in low light conditions. Home time is shown by a retrograde GMT hand, again with a luminescent treatment, that points to a 24-hour scale on a ring, snapping back to its initial position. Setting this second time zone is child’s play thanks to the crown at 9 o’clock, which has the same grey rubber grip as the crown at 3 o’clock for winding and for setting local time. At 6 o’clock, an opening in the home-time ring creates space for a seconds subdial, which is decorated with triangles and swept by Cyrus’s signature helix-shaped hand. All these functions are powered by the in-house CYR708 automatic movement.
Luxe and lightweight
Visually, the Klepcys GMT Ocean Blue and Klepcys GMT Palm Green follow in the wake of the 2020 model. Design is sleek and powerful with the emphasis very much on style and comfort. The 42mm cushion case is meant to be noticed but lightweight grade 5 titanium means it won’t feel over-present on the wrist. Both these limited editions are fitted with a Cordura strap that’s colour-matched to the openworked dial for a casual, tone-on-tone look. For a more subdued style and to amp up these watches’ sports-luxe personality, Cyrus is introducing its first metal bracelet. Supple and ergonomic, it fits the wrist like a second skin. The ideal way to explore new horizons without losing track of time.
