New brown dial for the Scafograf MCMLIX

The contemporary version of Scafograf 300 was launched in 2016, when it received the Grand Prix D’Horlogerie de Gèneve Award as Best Sports Watch of the year. It was then declined in the “MCMLIX” version, featuring a distinctive vintage look, yet incorporating all the main features required of a dive watch: a mechanical, self‐winding movement, with a steel case waterproof at 300 mt, a unidirectional rotating bezel in ceramic with luminescent markings on the first 15 minutes scale, curved sapphire glass and a helium escape valve at 9 o’clock.

After the versions with black, blue and green dials, 2023 sees the launch of the warm brown shade, combined with the ceramic bezel of the same colour that makesthis highly technical model a perfect choice even for everyday use.

One of the main reasons for Scafograf’s success is in fact the ease with which this heir to the pioneering days of sports watchmaking can pass from the depths of the ocean to the very different challenges of the urban life, perfect for any occasion.

A fresh look for the 8 Jours Grande Taille

Already in 1997, Eberhard & Co. was one of the first Watchmaking Maisons to offer a model featuring anextended power reserve. The 8 Jours was born out of an intuition based on the technology used in the past in pocket watches: equipped with hand‐wound movements, they could keep running forseveral days without losing any precision. Their size, though, was the problem. Innovation would require overcoming the challenge of trying to transfer this same feature to a case measuring only 39 mm in diameter i.e., the size of the first 8 Jours.

This was by no means an easy undertaking, even for a Maison which, since 1887, had been a point of reference in high‐end Swiss watchmaking and which had already registered countless patents. Asis often the case, the turning point came down to a simple piece of inspiration: the main barrel could be flanked by a second one which, despite its small size, could house a spring over a meter long.

This is how the modern incarnation of one of the most widely appreciated "useful complications" of traditional watchmaking was born. The extremely refined aesthetic highlightsthe ancient origins of the 8 Jours. The same classic lines were also maintained in its subsequent larger version: the Grande Taille, with a diameter of 41 mm. The dials are inspired by tradition, with the power reserve indicated by a scale at nine o'clock. The sapphire case‐back is open on the skeleton bridge, with its colour coated motive in the form of a number “8”.

Thanks to such a remarkable combination of technique and aesthetics, as well as to its fabulous price ‐ quality ratio, the 8 Jours has proven to be one of the most popular models for all enthusiasts of classic timepieces. Celebrating its rich history, the range has now been enhanced by two new dials destined to make the model even more appealing: while the very smart blue option is embellished with an outer area in white, the white dial choice is adorned with a silvery edge: both are further enriched by a Guilloché finish. The Roman numerals and the refined counters, alongside the vintage‐style logo, are the final touches to a timeless, stunningly elegant appearance.

As with all the models in the collection, you can opt for the closed back or for the "Vitré" version with visible movement. For those who love the bracelet version, the steel Chaland model is available; while for those who prefer a strap, the proposal is in blue rubberized fabric when combined with the blue dial or a black leather strap with double stitching for the white dial. A sophisticated and charming accessory ideal for enriching even the most informal look.
