Editorial A Week in Zermatt With WorldTempus
Join us this week for all the watch news direct from Zermatt. Our editorial team has packed up its skis and its watches for a week of adventures in this world-famous winter resort. Skiing, snowboarding, ice-climbing, hiking, and après-ski are all on the agenda to test dozens of watches out in the wild!
It is one thing to test watches in the comfort of the WorldTempus offices in Geneva, and quite another to take them on a real adventure! This week, we will be putting a large selection of watches through their paces as we ski down the slopes of Zermatt’s Gornegrat, hang off icy cliff faces in the Gorner Gorge, hike through fresh snow, and drink cocktails by an open fire (which is technically not an adventure but something that, we are sure you will agree, needs testing all the same)!
We were staying at the Hotel Carina, which is a stone’s throw away from the railway station. This delightful boutique hotel has rooms for every budget, from fun dormitories for friends, family, or colleagues (in our case), right up to four-bedroom penthouse suites with views of the Matterhorn, where our horological guests were staying. We encourage you to take a look at our Hotel Carina video to discover the hotel, meet our team in person, and get a glimpse of some exceptional watches from Alpina, Behrens, Doxa, Hublot, Montblanc, Panerai, TAG Heuer, and more.

Even though taking 10 people and 25 watches to Zermatt is great fun, it is hard work as our team of journalists, photographers, and videographers (including our friends at Studio Diode) pushed their limits to capture the most amazing images to document our adventures. Luckily, two of our videographers are ex-national-level skiers, so expect some thrilling footage over the coming days.
You will also discover the wonderful world of Bovet, whose team joined us for a couple of days. We chatted with the Maison’s owner, Pascal Raffy, during a cozy fireside chat at the Hotel Carina about the past, present, and future of Bovet, and continued the conversation the very next day during a hike in the snow at the foot of the Matterhorn. The Bovet adventure ended on the terrace at Chez Vrony, where we discovered some incredible timepieces.
Another highlight was meeting four members of the Fine Watch Club who joined us for some adventures, fine dining, and a horological pub quiz prepared by our Editor-in-Chief Suzanne Wong, who taught all of us a thing or two! They were also able to discover the Fine Watch Club’s Alpina Alpiner Extreme Automatic Limited Edition, which we were also testing on the slopes. We talked to them all about their watch-collecting journey, which we can discover this week as well.

This is just a taster of the things we got up to. Stay tuned all this week (and next) for all our articles and videos on worldtempus.com and don’t forget to follow us on Instagram for some of the behind-the-scenes fun.
