The SeaQ in Chronograph Mode

Glashütte Original introduces its very first diving watch with chronograph

Which would you rather? Go racing or for a dive? It doesn’t matter: with the SeaQ Chronograph, you don’t have to choose! The German watchmaker is launching its confident debut in the highly select club of diving watches that can also measure short time intervals. The brand’s first diving watch to feature a chronograph, the SeaQ Chronograph is the ideal watch for the contemporary adventurer, who switches from one activity to the next in a fraction of a second.

SeaQ: aquatic watch par excellence

The SeaQ, Glashütte Original’s aquatic collection, meets the highest standards of diving watch functionality. In accordance with the ISO standard, it is water resistant to at least 100 metres, has an indicator for remaining dive time (i.e. the amount of oxygen left in the bottles), thanks to a unidirectional rotating bezel, and offers good visibility in low light, a vital feature for deep dives, given that no light reaches the bottom of the ocean. The brand’s mantra is excellence, which is why Glashütte was not content to satisfy the ISO standard for the new SeaQ Chronograph: they have gone beyond (way beyond), with a depth rating of 300 metres. The colour blue, a familiar sight on SeaQ dials, is back again on this chronograph, underlining its maritime vocation. The unidirectional rotating bezel with its wave pattern also references the sea, but it serves more than just an aesthetic purpose. Thanks to its shape, it’s easier for the fingers to grip and turn (a small but very important detail, believe me, particularly when your fingers are wrinkled from the water). The generously-sized hands offer unparalleled legibility.

Why settle for good when you can aim for better?

Glashütte Original, a brand that likes to do things properly, decided to add a chronograph to this diving watch. And not just any chronograph! Forget about your basic chrono, where you have to stop the hand and reset it before you can activate the timer again. Hello, flyback! This mechanism is a perfect fit for a watch like the SeaQ Chronograph, which is designed for adventure. When every second counts, it’s crucial to be able to restart the chronograph quickly, without having to pass go (or press reset) in between. The sapphire caseback provides an opportunity to admire the construction of the automatic 37-23 movement and its column wheel.

Also visible on the back of this 43.2 mm steel timepiece is the balance spring, the heart of the watch. In order to provide superlative performance, the balance is made from silicon. In addition to being lighter than metal, silicon is less subject to deformation due to gravity, and is resistant to magnetic fields.

Equally at home on land or at sea, the SeaQ Chronograph is available in four versions with steel bracelet, rubber strap or a synthetic band in grey or blue. What’s holding you back?
