Moon on moon - Hermès
1 minute read
The brand unveils the Arceau l’Heure de la Lune.

When Hermès revealed its take on astronomical complications, embodied by the Arceau L’heure de la lune, it was unveiling a whole new approach that involved overturning traditional moon-phase display codes. With this model, the Parisian brand was entering a territory adjacent to its previous works, imbued with a subtly offbeat conceptual vision and tinged with a certain sense of humor. Poetic time was followed by quirky astronomy. Instead of a small disk beneath a dial, the age of our nocturnal satellite was given by two mobile dials : one for the hours and minutes and another for the date. In the course of their rotation (which lasts 59 days), they play a perpetual game of hide-and-seek with the moon in the background : one for each hemisphere, made of white mother-of-pearl applied to an aventurine or meteorite plate. Hermès is extending this inverted vision with a new interpretation, in which the dial background is made of lunar meteorite. Its origin is clearly identified and refers to the precise point that dominates our night sky. Ripped from its original planet by shocks dating back thousands of years, this speckled fragment composes a doubly spatial and poetic picture.
