Astronomia may just be Jacob & Co.’s most fertile collection. It allows for infinite interpretations and additional complications. The most playful among those is the Astronomia Casino. It starts with the Astronomia core design, which is a rotating platform whose four arms are perfectly balanced. As this ensemble rotates on its axis in ten minutes, so does the hour and minute dial, which therefore remains upright. And the 288-facet, Jacob-cut diamond representing the moon. And the magnesium and blue lacquer globe acting as our Earth. And finally, a double-axis tourbillon creates its own rotation pattern. In between this carousel and the underlying parts of the calibre, the Astronomia Casino features a roulette wheel, complete with all 37 pockets. Its ceramic ball is stuck between the red and black numbers and a sapphire panel, keeping it from acting as a wrecking ball. When the pusher at 8 o’clock is activated, the roulette spins and off the ball goes. The flamboyant nature of this gamesome animation fits perfectly with a diamond setting. The four lugs’ front and sides, the bezel, the ring around the roulette wheel and its central part are all adorned with an extensive set of baguette-cut pure diamonds, as is the rose gold clasp. That is a total of 266 of them.
