Kari Voutilainen came to Baselworld firing on all cylinders. The master watchmaker has been putting in long hours to meet orders, which inevitably exceed capacity, and generally working hard to try and "get things moving" as he says. He and his 13 staff produced in the region of fifty watches in 2011, and expect to make the same amount this year. "We're a little behind schedule," says Voutilainen. "I'm doing what I can to catch up but it's not that simple. Even if I take on one or two staff, which I probably will within the coming months, it doesn't follow that we'll produce more. Which isn't an end in itself anyway. It takes a long time to make a one-off, and as we completed three minute repeaters, one power reserve, and two perpetual calendars over the last weeks of 2011, it's been hard for us to press ahead with the small series. Fortunately, most of our customers are willing to wait."  (...)
