Escale Spin Time Blue - Louis Vuitton
The new Escale Spin Time comes in a combination of greys and metallic blues.

The Escale Spin Time first saw the light of day in 2016. It combined two of Louis Vuitton’s innovations, dating from 2010 and 2014 respectively: the Spin Time movement and the Escale case. The Spin Time movement displays the time on 12 rotating hour cubes, each facet of which is decorated with either a flag motif or the corresponding hour index. The Escale collection with its evocative name brings to Louis Vuitton’s watchmaking the travel theme inherited from its progenitor, trunk-maker Louis Vuitton. The Escale models are inspired by the way travel trunks were customised with bands of colour, crests or initials, or hand-painted, and the watch case takes the famous trunk corners and turns them into lugs.

The Escale Spin Time aesthetic for 2016 consisted of richly tinted Spin Time hour cubes against a grey dial, in a titanium or rose gold case. The new Escale Spin Time Bleue has a completely different look, with its two dominant colours – grey and blue – giving it a resolutely contemporary elegance. The cubes on each hour marker around the grey dial present the same decorative motifs, but here the multiple colours are replaced by three shades of blue. Each has four printed sides – am and pm hours on two sides, with flag motifs on the remaining two. The faces bearing the hour indices are in black and white.

The dialmakers from La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, who executed the cubes by hand, were also responsible for decorating the central metallic blue disc with a black and grey globe bearing the name of the Parisian maison and the legend “spin time”. It gives the dial depth, while highlighting the watch’s spirit of adventure. The stylised globe floats above the minute hand, coated with white luminescent material, which points to the minutes track marked with fine lines and 12 small squares adjacent to the hour cubes.

The watch combines two different precious materials; the 41 mm case in brushed titanium, water resistant to 30 m, is paired with 18-karat white gold bezel, lugs and crown. The sapphire crystal caseback provides a view of the Calibre LV77, where the eyes are drawn to the aluminium disc attached to the rotor, which revolves around a big letter V. The automatic movement, developed and assembled by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, gives the watch a 42-hour power reserve.

The Escale Spin Time Bleue comes fitted with a matching alligator strap lined with yellow rubber-effect calfskin, and is secured with an 18-karat white gold pin buckle.
