Piaget unveils a new Haute Joaillerie Limelight Gala, a Limelight Gala Tsavorite, and a new Altiplano Ultimate Concept Unique Piece for Watches and Wonders 2022

It is definitely show time for Piaget with these three extraordinary creations. Let’s begin with the Piaget Limelight Gala Haute Joaillerie that was the first to catch my eye…literally!

Piaget Limelight Gala Haute Joaillerie

This high-jewellery creation highlights Piaget’s vast expertise in goldsmithing and gem-setting that it has been accumulating over the last 60 or so years. More than 175 hours of jewellery work goes into making just one of these timepieces. Crafted out of 18-karat white gold, the timepiece is set with approximately 15 carats of diamonds of all shapes, sizes and cuts. The bracelet is also a work of art in itself as it is both integrated and articulated so it sits on the wrist like a second skin.

Like with all the Limelight Gala models, the lugs are asymmetrical, and in this creation, continue onto the bracelet with a row of marquise-cut diamonds. This unique diamond cut is one of Piaget’s most distinctive jewellery design codes. Legend has it that this distinctive cut came from France’s King Louis XV who requested a new diamond cut in honour of the smile of his beloved Marquise de Pompadour. Now how’s that for devotion?

Piaget Limelight Gala Tsavorite

Piaget is well-known for its use of hard stone dials and this Limelight Gala Tsavorite features a dial made of the highest quality malachite, which is framed by a beautifully coloured gradient setting of tsavorites and diamonds. In its sourcing of precious materials, this deep green malachite has been chosen for its deep colour and regular grain that offers excellent contrasts.

As for the tsavorites, they have been custom-cut in a round brilliant cut. This is because the round cut brings a maximum of brilliance, which is not usually desired for coloured stones, where you want to intensity the internal colour. The advantage, however, is that they have the same number of facets as the diamonds, creating an elegant and harmonious setting that does not compromise the intensity of the colour or the light.

The18-karat white gold timepiece is adorned with 174 diamonds and 22 tsavorites and comes with the maison’s iconic Palace Décor bracelet that is crafted like material from an haute couture gown. Powering the timepiece is the Piaget Calibre 501P automatic movement that is on full view through a sapphire case back, making this timepiece beautiful on both the inside and out.

Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept Constellation

It has now been four years since we discovered the world’s thinnest timepiece at what was then called the SIHH in 2018. It took another two years to make it reliable for everyday wear, with the first timepieces becoming available for sale in 2020. That same year, this record-breaking wristwatch won the prestigious Aiguille d’Or prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.

This year, Piaget is releasing a unique piece that celebrates the AUC adventure with lots of design details that link the watch to its roots in La Côte-aux-Fées. The dial features stars that replicate the sky above the village, the exact date and time of the watch’s birth – 7:47 am on 7th February 2017 – is inscribed at 2:30, and the Piaget logo is in the same font as the logo above the manufacture.

This new AUC comes in a 41mm case made of a cobalt-based high-tech alloy that matches the dark slate-blue PVD base plate. The timepiece is completed with an extremely thin dark blue alligator strap that does not exceed 1.5mm (in keeping with the thinness of the case), making this an elegant celebration of this world record holder for horological thinness.
