Twenty-One GMT automatic unique piece

This one-of-a-kind watch, inspired by the world of motor racing and the steering wheels of the 1930s, marks the start of a new era for Rebellion.

Rebellion Timepieces was founded on the shores of Lake Geneva in 2008, the brainchild of an industrialist with a passion for watches, technology and motor racing. The brand is a bold and original distillation of these disparate worlds. Nothing is left to chance where the pursuit of quality and extraordinary performance is concerned. Rebellion timepieces are produced in very small series, but they have a big personality, in keeping with the strong characters whose skills are showcased on the world’s racing circuits. To give an example, Rebellion produced the T1000, whose T1K aluminium movement features a revolutionary patented energy distribution system that can guarantee an autonomy of 1000 hours – 40 days and 40 nights! This world record watch was so radically innovative that it took three years of research, development and patient adjustment to achieve. While the competitive spirit and powerful design of vintage racing cars is present in the Twenty-One, which was officially launched at Baselworld 2017, its price positioning marks a radical break with previous models.

A double première for Rebellion

Rebellion made a splash at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, launching new car company partnerships and new watch models even more directly inspired by the motor racing world. The watch company made the most of its presence at a number of different booths, including that of its own Rebellion Racing stable, as well as those of hypercar Zenvo and graphic novel publisher Michel Vaillant, who has devoted an album to Rebellion, to launch a new timepiece priced 50% lower than its previous entry-level model.

Twenty-One GMT automatique pièce unique

The one-of-a-kind watch produced to celebrate WorldTempus’s 16th anniversary is part of this major shift in Rebellion’s strategy, although the company continues produce its highly technical complicated pieces in parallel. Here, the 4 of the hours disc is replaced by a red 16 for WorldTempus’s 16th anniversary. The motor racing DNA remains omnipresent in the Twenty-One, inspired by the steering wheels and dashboards of classic racing cars from the 1930s, particularly the 1935 Packard One-Twenty. Seen at the back of the generously proportioned cushion-shaped steel case, the rotor brings to mind the spoked wheels of vintage racing cars. The original design doesn’t detract from its functionality, as the Twenty-One is equipped with an exclusive automatic movement that displays a second time zone. So there’s no excuse for not following the endurance world championship, in which Rebellion is also involved.
