A Swiss special Blossom Velvet Red

A Swiss special Blossom Velvet Red - Roger Dubuis
Roger Dubuis steps away from the macho roar of car engines, and unveils a women’s watch with a delicate floral motif in the colours of the Swiss flag.

Although this model was not designed specifically for International Women’s Day, the Blossom Velvet Red, designed for bold, liberated, independent women, is an ode to femininity that fits perfectly with our theme for today.

A harmonious blend of elegance, technical appeal and jewellery, the Velvet collection unveiled in 2016 is distinguished by its strong identity and unique design. The unusual case shape comes with diamond-set horns and a third lug top and bottom, a brand signature, that breaks up the bezel and gives the piece an extravagant allure. The slender Roman numerals that usually adorn the geometric dial have been discarded in favour of a floral motif redolent with the promise of spring.

A Swiss special Blossom Velvet Red

The Blossom Velvet Red comes in a white gold 36 mm case. The iridescent mother-of-pearl dial enhances the trompe-l’oeil effect of the layered shapes and surfaces. The outer part of the dial encloses floral motifs, laser-cut from a thin plate of grand feu enamel, intertwined with stems and tendrils. A close-set clawless diamond forms the centre of each blossom, echoing the brilliant-cut diamonds that surround the inner barrel-shaped dial, where the slender hour and minute hands mark the time.

While many women’s watches are driven by quartz movements, all the models in the Velvet collection are mechanical. Like its sisters, the Blossom Velvet Pink and Blue, the Blossom Velvet Red is driven by the automatic calibre RD821, which beats at 28,800 vph and provides a power reserve of 48 hours. This manufacture movement bears the Poinçon de Genève, a testament to its technical excellence.

The Blossom Velvet Red Swiss Edition, with its spring-like appeal, comes with a red satin strap to match the grand feu enamel flowers, complete with white gold folding clasp set with brilliant-cut diamonds. As its name suggests, this timepiece in the Swiss colours is produced exclusively for the Swiss market, and the 28-piece limited edition is only available from Roger Dubuis boutiques in Switzerland.
