From shadow to light, “Equilibre” calls for reflection...

A watch with an entirely guilloche dial, leaving appearing the symbol of opposite but complementary energies: the yin-yang. Considered as two factors of the universe's harmony, these two energies are interacting, and can not exist without the other. The very principle of this symbol, is to achieve the perfect balance. Instead of using colors, the symbol is interpreted by leaving an harmonious contrast of chiaroscuro, which, according to the movements and the ambient light, is constantly confronted between duality and equality. This shadow and light effect reveals the fine grooves of the dial. The changing light settling on the watch, allow to discover different reflections of the yin-yang, by always revealing its original nature. This creation thus reflects the idea that every external influence upon us, bounces off us, and radiates differently with every passing moment. It represents the ability to adapt to different influences, while attempting to preserve the inner balance to which we all long for.

The two-fold time display confronts us with our own perception of the passage of time. As it passes, time may appear to slip away or freeze... both perceptions finaly bring us back to the real time displayed. Every woman is free to interpret the changing state of the symbol on her wrist, depending on whether she feels more inclined towards the yin or the yang.

“A watch that plays with shadow and light, bringing together all of the contradictions of a woman, in a beautifully balanced moment of reflection”

The beginnings of the Yin &Yang jewellery time collection, have been conceptualized and designed in collaboration with the artist designer Andre Meyer, and presented at Baselworld 2011. Eager to realize this concept, SmB wanted to incorporate the technique of guilloche, in order to operate the effects of light. The choice of materials has been carefully made to emphasize the contrasts. The association of a dragon-looking bracelet, and a box sets with diamonds, is the perfect balance between the Yin and theYang. Then, the photographer Clément Rousset knew how to stage the union of these opposite forces. Thus, water and fire are like the chiaroscuro of a woman, with a cold and glamor beauty.
