Baselworld - This year, TAG Heuer launches its most luxurious Aquaracer collection to date.

“Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, born of the sea foam and and carried ashore..."

Since time immemorial artists have used the image of water--Nature’s mirror--to reflect on the sensual beauty of women. The eternal symbol of birth and rebirth, water’s soft, undulating gracefulness, and its great, unfathomable depth and power, express the very essence of the feminine.

The newest luxury incarnation of the Lady Aquaracer, with its shimmering surfaces and rounded curves, celebrates the timeless resonances and reflections between women and water. Exquisitely proportioned, it is fashioned from our most precious materials--coral pink gold, glittering diamonds and sensual mother of pearl. Water and woman inspired, it is an aquatic-inspired work of art.

From Bo Derek to Cameron Diaz

In the 1980s, the Aquaracer vision was personified by a ravishing image of Bo Derek, whose first Aquaracer was a gift from her father. In an interview, Jack Heuer, the brand’s 80-year-old Honorary Chairman and the principle designer of the Aquaracer, tells the story:

“I met Bo Derek’s father, Paul Collins in 1979, at Hobert “Hobie” Alter’s home in Southern California. Hobie is the inventor of the Hobie Cat catamaran, and Paul was working for him at the time. After the meeting, Paul kindly offered to drive me back to the Los Angeles Airport, and during the long drive we got to know each other much better. At the airport he asked me if I could get him one of our Ladies Heuer skindiving watches, which he wanted to give his daughter as a present for her 23rd birthday. I sent him shortly thereafter from our office in New Jersey a catalogue and he chose the smallest model we made, which I delivered him as promised with a nice discount in the fall of 1979. Shortly before Christmas, I received from Paul a Christmas card thanking me for the favor. Enclosed with it was a color slide of Bo Derek--wearing only our watch!”

The photo shows the incomparable “10” lying on a beach--as if, like Venus, she had just emerged from the waves--wearing only a little sand and the Heuer precursor to the Aquaracer.

Today’s vision of the Aquaracer is magnificently communicated by its present Ambassador, the Hollywood legend Cameron Diaz. Cameron’s Aquaracer was a gift to herself: “the first watch I ever bought myself was a TAG Heuer dive watch…which I actually used for diving.  It was my prize possession and I wore it for years as a fashion statement, as well as for its utility.”

The vital stats: 18K 5N rose gold and 47 Top Wesselton diamonds (0.48CT)
The first-ever steel & pink gold version in the Aquaracer line is also the most feminine, with rounder curves and extra sizzle. Standout elements of the refined design include the dazzling new “H-link” bracelet: broad central row in precious rose gold, surrounded by narrower links with curved sides in polished stainless steel. The fixed bezel, too, is in 18K 5N rose gold, now with 3 facets and the Aquaracer line’s signature six diving studs. The horizontal lines on the bi-textured dial call to mind ocean waves, and the aquatic motif is further embellished through the dial’s exquisite mother of pearl.

Sophisticated, thin, elegant, and loaded with luxury finishes, the Aquaracer Lady retains, along with all its feminine allure, some of the robust attributes of its masculine counterpart, like the screw-in crown, characteristic of professional diving watches.
