Women's watches at Baselworld 2017 Women’s mechanical watches step it up a notch at Baselworld

When it comes to luxury watches for women, today’s top watch brands offer everything from high technology to diamonds, with a bit of nature thrown in.

It’s no secret that women’s watches are on the rise.  In all price ranges, watch brands are unveiling more creativity for the ladies’ wrists than ever before, and most of them offer not just beauty, but also brawn. Mechanical watches lead the charge for women, sometimes with complications and add-on features that prove women love what’s “under the hood” as much as men do.

Watch brands are regularly responding to women’s demands, unveiling automatic and hand-wound watches equipped with chronographs, calendars, moonphase indicators, dual time functions and more. Of course, quartz-powered watches remain steady, as well. Additionally, brands are delivering diversity and versatility via a host of genres for women that include sport watches, daily-wear watches and even diamond-adorned beauties. This year at Baselworld 2017, men have to move aside as new women’s watches make a strong debut.

Carl F. Bucherer, for instance, goes for pure sophistication in its Manero Peripheral watch for women. The in-house-made Caliber CFB A2050 mechanical movement with central hour and minute display, as well as date indication at 3:00 and small sub-seconds dial at 6:00 powers the watch. What makes the piece so special, though, is that the double-sided automatic movement has a peripheral rotor. This concept of placing the rotor around the outer rim of the movement reduces the thickness of the watch, while still offering 55 hours of power reserve. Even better, it is a COSC-certified chronometer.  The 40mm Manero Peripheral is offered initially in two versions, one with a white mother-of-pearl dial and white strap and one with a chocolate brown mother-of-pearl dial and matching brown strap. Enhancing the already strong timepiece, the brand paves the bezel with 60 diamonds.  The watch is water resistant to 30 meters.

Opting for nature’s beauty in its delivery, Cvstos Watch Company unveils an alluring new watch for women that is inspired by springtime. The automatic Re-Belle Papillon watch is crafted in steel or in gold and offers hours, minutes and seconds. The brand also offers a Sakura version of the watch inspired by Japanese cherry blossoms, and that watch includes date and dual time indication. The Papillon watch features the spring symbol of the butterfly on the etched mother-of-pearl dial.  In fact, several small butterflies carved of white mother of pearl fly across the dial, while a large diamond-set gold carved butterfly with wings open occupies the majority of the dial.  Diamond makers track the time, and the watch is further accented with a diamond-set case and a row of diamonds on the crown. The mechanical movement, Cvstos self-winding Caliber 551 with 23 jewels, is visible via a transparent caseback. The watch offers 42 hours of power reserve and is water resistant to 100 meters.

The Grande Seconde watch is an icon for the brand, and by adding the tourbillon to it, women have a mechanical marvel that is also a stunning beauty. The watch is crafted in 18-karat 5N rose gold set with 260 diamonds, and features an inner bezel ring of diamonds. The oscillating weigh   features white mother of pearl adornments. The tourbillon at 12:00 offers a continually moving, mesmerizing appeal.
