Bucherer LADY by GMT x Bucherer: a glittering launch reception
On Thursday 21 November, at its boutique in Geneva’s Rue de Rhône, Bucherer hosted a special reception dedicated exclusively to women, to mark the launch of this year’s women-only isuse of GMT Magazine: Lady by GMT.
This year, GMT Magazine chose Bucherer to host the launch event of the 2019 Lady by GMT edition. Given their shared focus on jewellery and watches, the women’s magazine and the boutique are a good match. The reception took place in a recently opened space on the 4th floor of the store, where a new “Certified Pre-Owned” section offers second-hand (or rather, “second wrist” as one guest joked) timepieces with a two-year guarantee. In this newly renovated space, guests, all readers of the magazine, were invited to try on the watches and jewellery on display.

The evening’s events were launched by the new manager of Bucherer’s Rue du Rhône boutique, Antonio Teixeira. The Bucherer group, which was founded in 1888 in Lucerne, is keen to make the most of every opportunity to check in with clients and ensure it is meeting their expectations. “How do you perceive Bucherer?” Antonio Teixeira asked his female customers. “What does it make you think of? There are no wrong answers – they will simply help us to identify what we need to work on in the future.” It didn’t take long for a deluge of compliments to flood in, demonstrating that Bucherer is recognised as a high-quality multi-brand jeweller and watch retailer. As Antonio Teixeira pointed out, this quality image is further strengthened by the fact that the Lucerne family business is currently the world’s biggest multi-brand retailer.

He was joined by Joy Corthésy, the new editor-in-chief of Lady by GMT, who shared her enthusiasm with the following words: “This issue of Lady by GMT is very special to me, not only because it’s my first issue as editor-in-chief, but more importantly, because it has been created BY women, FOR women.” The aim of this women’s publication is to break away from the image of jewellery and watches dictated to women by men, which is why Joy Corthésy and her team went out of their way to talk to inspiring women who are breaking the mould, day after day.

The big surprise of the evening was that every guest’s glass had a diamond in the bottom, only one of which was real. After finishing their champagne, every woman had her stone inspected to see if it was the genuine diamond, although they weren’t told the result straight away. At the end of the evening Roland Noser, the gemmologist manning the diamond-cutting booth, took the floor to explain how diamonds are formed, and how they interact with light. Following his presentation, Antonio Teixeira revealed the name of the lucky winner, and the mystery was solved.

This congenial and festive launch cocktail organised by Bucherer was full of surprises, all cleverly focused on the world of watches and jewellery.
