Cannes Film Festival 2016 Watch and jewellery companies are the stars of Cannes
The Cannes Film Festival once again provided an opportunity for the entire world to feast their eyes on the sumptuous spectacle of celebrities bedecked in glittering jewels and stunning watches.
Elegance, glamour and sequins featured heavily on the programme of the 69th Cannes Film Festival. Actors, directors, producers and models from all over the world flocked to the Promenade de la Croisette for the cinema’s biggest event of the year, and celebrities graced the red carpet with breathtaking jewellery and watches.
Bulgari was a strong presence on the red carpet throughout the entire fortnight. At the premiere of “Money Monster” directed by Jodie Foster, Australian actress Naomi Watts modelled an exclusive pair of Serpenti earrings from Bulgari’s latest high jewellery collection, Mediterranean Eden, due to be launched in June. Taking the traditional red carpet walk, Indian actress Sonam Kapoor, American supermodel Karlie Kloss, Spanish actress Inma Cuesta and Brazilian model Alessandra Ambrosio sparkled with Bulgari jewels.
Montblanc was also much in evidence. These are some we spotted on the red carpet: actor and jury member Mads Mikkelsen with a Heritage Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph; actor Josh Gad and his Montblanc Star Quantième Complet; Santiago Mitre, a jury member (Critics’ Week) with his Star Date Automatic; French actor Tomer Sisley with a Star Classic Date Automatic; Chinese actor Huang Jing Yu with a Heritage Chronométrie Dual Time Vasco da Gama Special Edition; and finally, actor Damien Bonnard wore a Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie Dual Time Vasco da Gama Special Edition.
American actress Jessica Chastain and Chinese actress Gong Li, both international ambassadors for Piaget, lit up the red carpet at Cannes. Watchmaker and jeweller Cartier was also out in force, supplying dazzling pieces to Charlize Theron, Amal Clooney and Jodie Foster.
Jaeger-LeCoultre, which is known for its close ties with the world of cinema, also had a strong presence at the Festival. Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani was spotted twice on the red carpet with a vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre and a Grande Reverso Ultra-Thin on her wrist. Director, actress and friend of the brand Carmen Chaplin wore a vintage ladies’ watch. British actor and friend of the brand Clive Owen chose to sport a Master Grande Tradition Tourbillon Cylindrique à Quantième Perpétuel at the annual filmmakers’ dinner hosted by Finch & Partners, with the support of Jaeger-LeCoultre. Daniel Bruhl wore a Master Ultra Thin Small Second, and Chinese actor Jing Boran was seen with a Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Duoface.
On Thursday 12 May, Vanity Fair magazine and Chanel threw their traditional party at the Tetou restaurant. On the guest list were Blake Lively, Paz Vega, Soko, Violaine Gillbert, Jessica Chastain and Kristen Stewart – a Chanel ambassador – all decked out in Chanel. Gaspard Ulliel, the face of Bleu de Chanel perfume, wore an 18K gold Monsieur de Chanel watch.

Kim Kardashian, Milla Jovovich, Bella Hadid, Robert de Niro, Grace Hightower, Paris Hilton, Toni Garn, Amy Jackson, Chanel Iman, Chris Tucker, Gregory Van der Weil, Hailey Clauson, Valeria Golino and Harvey Weinstein all accepted Fawaz Gruosi’s invitation. It was also a perfect opportunity for de Grisogono’s founder and CEO to introduce a new star: a rough diamond weighing a stupendous 404 carats, which has been named “14 Febreiro”.
Each year, Chopard’s party is one of the most popular events of the fortnight. This time around, the Geneva company invited guests to a special marquee at Port Canto. On Thursday 19 May the Cap-Eden-Roc Hotel in Cannes hosted the 2016 amfAR gala. This charity event to promote AIDS research, sponsored by Harry Winston, included a fashion show featuring today’s hottest models, dressed in made-to-measure dresses and creations by the New York jeweller. Harry Winston also auctioned off a necklace named the Secret Cluster Perfume Bottle Necklace, which raised €375,000.
On the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival, Geneva watchmaker-jeweller Jacob & Co. celebrated its 30th birthday at a gala dinner co-hosted by Arije. Guests included French actress Emmanuelle Béart and American hip hop and R&B artist Swiss Beatz.
