The spotlights of watchmaking industry turned to the French Riviera last week with brands visible on the red carpet in Cannes and the wrists of Formula 1 drivers in Monaco.

To coincide with the Cannes film festival, our new contributor Anita Khatri chose the subject of cinema for her first article for WorldTempus. Anita is an expert on the Indian luxury scene and a mission delegate of the FHH in India and provides an excellent overview of the religion that is Bollywood and how watch brands are using its stars to promote their timepieces.

After the fashion parade of Cannes, attention turned to Monaco for what is undoubtedly the most glamorous Formula 1 Grand Prix on the calendar. I selected four watches that are inextricably linked to Formula 1 and, more importantly, would look perfectly at home in Monaco, whether you’re in shirtsleeves, sunbathing on the beach, relaxing on a yacht, or even hurtling around the streets at 180 miles per hour.

Intermingled with all this news from the south of France were two important anniversaries: Louis Moinet celebrated its tenth birthday. The tenth birthday of a company that invented the world’s first chronograph back in 1816? Olivier Müller explains.

RSW also celebrated 100 years of activity, growing from a watch shop in Syria to a global brand today. The brand celebrates with a limited-edition La Neuveville 1914 model and, as luck would have it, you can also win a La Neuveville model, the Chrono Automatic Black PVD worth CHF 2,395, in this month’s competition, which ends on Saturday. Spread the word!

We have more great features lined up for the coming week, including a focus on high-frequency watches by David Chokron and a look at the new trend for small ladies’ watches spotted at BaselWorld by Marie de Pimodan-Bugnon.
