H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and Luc Pettavino were awarded the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa, a mark of distinction bestowed by universities upon a personality who has made a mark in a particular field.

The Soverieign was distinguished for his great interest in, and promotion of, research and science; supporting scientific research in universities. In his speech, the Rector of the University of Bern, Professor Taüber also recalled that his creation of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, devoted to protecting the environment, with a particular interest in climate change, connects him to the similar values of the University of Bern.
Finally, Professor Taüber emphasized that the Sovereign supports other scientific fields including a vital contribution to research into rare childhood illnesses, including treatments for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

It is also for his ongoing commitment in the quest for therapeutic solutions for neuromuscular diseases in general, and particularly myopathy, that Luc Pettavino received an honorary doctorate from the Senate and Board of Directors of the University of Bern.
Professor Taüber, in his laudation, emphasized the importance of the work of Luc Pettavino, for almost fifteen years, promoting, facilitating and funding research to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. It is in these efforts that Luc Pettavino, President of the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy and Only Watch Organizer, cooperates with the University of Bern through a biotech company of distinguished researchers, also protecting the know-how and patents funded by the Monegasque association.
