It would have been difficult to miss the important Geneva watch auctions last month, but in case you need a refresher, we have now grouped all our coverage of the world’s watch sales in general (news, star lots and expert opinions) in a new section that is accessible by the easy-to-remember address: http://en.worldtempus.com/auctions.
In addition to covering the auctions last month, we also visited a special exhibition dedicated to exceptional chronographs, organised by Gübelin in Geneva, and present a selection of the watches that were on show – including some rarer pieces loaned by the brands themselves specially for the occasion.
The Cannes Film Festival, along with the Monaco Grand Prix, were two other events that were difficult to miss last month, but with the sheer volume of coverage of such events its sometimes easy to lose track of what’s happening. In Cannes in particular, there was a constant procession of celebrities showing off fine watches and jewellery on the red carpet, as our example from Boucheron shows.
One great example of the diversity of activities within the watch industry was provided by Eberhard & Co. last month. WorldTempus featured a video of the brand’s presence at Baselworld with Tazio Nuvolari’s legendary twin-engined record-breaking Ferrari-powered Alfa Romeo, and brought news that Eberhard & Co. is also strengthening its links with the world of ice hockey by signing this year’s top scorer of the brand’s favourite club, Ambri Piotta, as a new ambassador. Among the numerous new watches not to be missed were the HYT H4 Gotham, which offers a number of new features from the brand: a “diabolically rigid” case in 3DTP™ carbon, hour indications on the bezel and a new technical strap combining rubber and Nomex™ technical fibre.
Last but not least Girard-Perregaux’s legendary tourbillon with three bridges model lives on in a new edition with a minute-repeater complication that is entirely visible thanks to an open-worked dial.
