The day before he announced whether he would stay on at relegated Hull City or move elsewhere, Marco Silva's thoughts were elsewhere as he enjoyed an initiation into mechanical watchmaking at Cvstos in Geneva.

As the hungry English tabloid sports pages were filled with speculation about the future career path of Hull City manager Marco Silva, the former Estoril defender, the coach himself was far from the football field, enjoying a spot of sightseeing in sunny Geneva and taking in a guided tour of the Cvstos workshops in the heart of Geneva's historical watchmaking district. With a sporty Cvstos chronograph on his wrist, the man who almost saved Hull City from relegation talked exclusively to WorldTempus about watches and football.

You are making a big announcement tomorrow as far as your career is concerned. Is it nice to be doing something different today?
Yes. We had this meeting booked for a long time, so the timing is purely coincidental. It's a lot different to one of my normal days but it's a pleasure to be here. Cvstos is a great brand and sometimes it's nice to do something that's different to football.

How did the association with Cvstos come about?
We first met a few months ago when my agent started discussions with the brand. It's a big brand and I think it's important to have a partnership with a strong brand.

A lot of footballers and managers have links with watch brands. Why do you think this is so?
It's not only in football. I think everyone appreciates a good watch and good managers work with good watch brands.

What are your impressions of the watches and the facilities you have seen here?
It was very important for me to get to know the products and understand how they are made and all the details that go into the production and the movement assembly. It's a little bit like a football team. Just as you have different players in a football team, you have different components in a watch movement and they all need to work together.

Were you already interested in watches before teaming up with Cvstos?
I've always been interested in watches but now I have a better understanding of how they are made and how they work. So now I am even more interested?

Do you talk about watches with the players?
There is always talk between players and managers and both like to see what the others are wearing. Now that I am associated with Cvstos my watch comes up in discussions as well.

Will you be designing a watch with Cvstos?
Yes, this will be the next step. Antonio [Terranova, Cvstos chief designer] has shown me some ideas already. I like the modern look of a watch and I like the colour blue, so that has already determined which Cvstos watch I am wearing today.
