With its metal-plated sapphire dial playing on the theme of semi-transparency, the Anniversary Automatic Calendar by Vulcain is a genuinely intriguing model providing tantalising glimpses of the legendary alarm movement from the Manufacture in le Locle: Cricket Calibre V-22 and its 257 parts.
It lends exceptional depth to the mystery exuded by this exceptional timepiece: the metal-plated sapphire dial of the Anniversary Automatic Calendar model naturally catches and holds the gaze. Metal-plated over almost its entire surface to create a semi-transparent effect, apart from the hour-markers and the large date window at 6 o'clock in order to maintain perfect visibility, this dial endows the Anniversary Automatic Calendar with singular character. The eye is immediately drawn to this dial – available in a metal-plated or sandblasted finish with 12 o'clock index and date arrow at 6 o'clock index – partially revealing the latest evolution of Vulcain's legendary alarm movement, Cricket Calibre V-22.
Stemming from a wealth of expertise built up over more than 60 years by the Manufacture Vulcain, this anthracite-coated self-winding movement with date display measures 12 lignes (12''') in diameter. It is equipped with two barrels, one to supply the energy required for the hours, minutes and seconds functions, and the other to drive the alarm function with its 20-second chime. It beats at a cadence of 18,000 vibrations per hour and has a 42-hour power reserve. This 257-part movement features unidirectional winding thanks to its equally anthracite-coated oscillating weight equipped with a ceramic ball-bearing mechanism. Cricket Calibre V-22 drives the hours, minutes, central seconds and date indications, as well as the Manufacture Vulcain's signature alarm function.
This new self-winding alarm movement is housed within a 42 mm steel or 18K rose gold case with metal-plated or sandblasted dial. The case is water-resistant to 50 metres and fitted with a sapphire crystal glass and a case-back enhanced with the stylised “V” for Vulcain. The Louisiana alligator leather strap is fastened by a gold pin buckle (for the 18K rose gold version) or a safety folding clasp for the steel version.
