The iconic Datograph collection had been enriched with an Up/Down model in 2012, the year the art of time measurement was institutionalized. In 2015, a new exterior featuring a rose gold case and black solid silver dial further enhances its aura of nobility. Meanwhile, A. Lange & Söhne was successfully awarded the Grande Complication Prize at the 2013 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) and the Calendar Watch Prize in 2014 for representatives of two other watch lines. And the Saxony-based brand will doubtless not stop there ! As its General Director Europe & Russia/CIS, Luca Dondi, points out : “This is a very important year for A. Lange & Söhne! We are celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of its founder, Ferdinand Adolph Lange, through various international events, and in parallel we are finalizing the construction of a new wing of our Manufacture. We presented 12 new models at the SIHH, reaching the outstanding number of 51 new calibers launched in 20 years. Among them, I am delighted to single out the new Lange 1, as well as the Zeitwerk minute-repeater that only the most assiduous Lange collectors will be able to acquire.”
The iconic A. Lange & Söhne oversized instant date stands out perfectly clearly on the black dial of the Datograph Up/Down in rose gold, while forming an equilateral triangle with the two silver- toned counters (for the small seconds and jumping minutes). The name Up/Down naturally refers to the power-reserve display at 6 o’clock, a staple feature of models from the Saxon brand, which is depleted when the small hand reaches the red zone of the barrel (accentuated by the inscription “AB” meaning Down in German, appearing opposite “AUF” for Up). This 451-part classic column-wheel chronograph movement with flyback function reveals its secrets through the sapphire caseback, including its column-wheel mechanism controlling the various functions, and the mechanism activating its precisely-jumping minutes counter. Fine Watchmaking collectors and connoisseurs will also appreciate the view of its hand-engraved balance-cock, its four screwed-in gold chatons and its three-quarter baseplate in non-treated Maillechort. Caliber L951.6 is one of the 50 in-house movements produced by the Manufacture in Dresden since its renaissance exactly 20 years ago.
