2020 The watch of 2020 according to WT and GMT Magazine

WorldTempus and GMT Magazine teams chose their favourite timepieces from 2020.

Despite all the challenges during 2020, this year has reminded us many important things, such as solidarity, patience and hope. Whether it’s the MB&F X H.Moser & Cie. Endeavour Cylindrical Tourbillon showing us the beauty of working together, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication highlighting the patience needed to carry out the finest craftsmanship, or Cyrus’ GMT retrograde looking firmly to the future, time will continue to tick through thick and thin and watchmakers will continue to find new ways of displaying it.

It seems that it will take more than lockdowns, restrictions and working from home to stop watchmaker’s creativity. So, without further ado, here are our teams’ choices for 2020. It is a truly eclectic selection that shows that 2020 wasn’t all bad after all!

Alexandra Montandon (administrative and accounting manager, GMT Publishing)
Jaquet Droz : Grande Seconde Quantième
“This year, my favourite is the Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Quantieme, dark blue enamel, rose gold, 41mm. It’s a bit of finesse in this world of roughness. The finesse represented of course by Jaquet Droz and world of crude by the Covid and its impact which opened a new era. The world before has disappeared, we are sailing on a new model of economic, social, health and humanitarian society.”

Vacheron Constantin : Egerie Moon Phase
“The Vacheron Constantin Egerie Moonphase, set, a poetic watch that takes us far from our realities.”

Jordy Bellido (editor and webpublisher, WorldTempus and GMT Magazine)
Cyrus : Klepcys MT Retrograde
“For me, the Klepcys GMT retrograde represents the total opposite of 2020, and thankfully! Its futuristic aspect and integration of a second time zone propels us towards a brighter future.”

Bulgari: Rainbow and Colour wave Incantati Rainbow
After a long and challenging year 2020, the new Rainbow and Colour wave Incantati Rainbow brings a touch of colour and sparkle to end this year. A watch which makes us dream in a difficult time and reminding us of all the beautiful colours of life.

MB&F and H.Moser & Cie. : LM101 MB&F X H. Moser and the Endeavour Cylindrical Tourbillon H. Moser X MB&F.
“One thing that comes to mind when I think of 2020 is how evident it is that we, as humanity, are at our best when we work together. Think of the countless companies that pivoted their production to make fabric masks and hand sanitizer, or restaurants to made meals for kids who couldn’t depend on a school lunch any more. Think of the neighborhoods that, nightly, erupted in applause as a thank you to health workers. What’s the watch that symbolizes that sense of collaboration the best? There’s two: the MB&F and H.Moser & Cie. collaborations, the LM101 MB&F X H. Moser and the Endeavour Cylindrical Tourbillon H. Moser X MB&F. Bringing what each do best for something unprecedently gorgeous.”

TAG Heuer : Carrera Chronograph
“I vote for the new TAG Heuer Carrera, for its simplicity. A behaviour to adopt in this unprecedented period.”

Léana Carlesimo (web-designer, community manager, digital project manager)
Jaeger-Le Coultre : Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication
“The representation of stars and the universe on the dial makes me think a lot of our year 2020, with Covid, the impossibility to travel or to go out as we wished. The only way to escape is to dream and have “our heads in the stars” in spite of all the challenges everyone has had to face (a nod to the various complications of the watch)!”

Julien Beauchot (editorial assistant, Skippers, administration and accounting, GMT Publishing)
Vacheron Constantin : Overseas Tourbillon
“For me it’s the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Tourbillon. I am certain that if I had had it on my wrist, I would have been more reassured this year. Jokes aside, a reassuring movement and style which we can count on. Three bracelets for every occasion and above all it reminds us what we have been missing this year: travel. And with a power reserve of 80 hours, no worries for those who had the right to one hour’s walk per day…”

Cartier: Maillon
“I am a great fan of the Maillon de Cartier watch which  charms me with its ultimate beauty and elegance!
This Maillon watch represents the year 2020 :
Like the design of the watch, we are learning to twist our lines and reinvent ourselves in this period when everything is disrupted.
Also, the notion of maillon reminds us that we need, as humans, to stick together, to be welded and united, more than ever!"
