Grande Seconde "Tribute" - Jaquet Droz
Jaquet Droz celebrates its 280th anniversary by paying tribute to its Grande Seconde model.

The Grande Seconde was first presented in 2002 but it is only now, in celebration of the brand's 280th anniversary, that the brand is launching the first model in yellow gold, as a limited edition of 88. The Grande Seconde "Tribute" is the direct descendant of a prestigious line of timepieces that stood out in their day and age.

The company has kept the perfect design created by Pierre Jaquet-Droz. You can find the hours and minutes at 12 o'clock, with the markers in a mixutre of Arabic and Roman numerals (back then this offered a legibility of the dial that was two centuries ahead of its time). The large seconds is found at 6 o'clock in a slightly larger subdial, which gives the dial its characteristic figure of eight silhouette. This model has a dial in grand feu enamel based on a centuries-old technique that few brands master today. Jaquet Droz is not only one of them, but probably the only one capable of obtaining a perfectly uniform ivory hue.

The Cal. 2663 self-winding movement is entirely hand assembled and has two mainspring barrels, which guarantee of power reserve of 68 hours (almost three days). A silicon escapement (balance spring and lever pallets) mean that it is not affected by variations in magnetic fields or temperature. Last but not least, its winding rotor bears two types of decoration that are specific to this model: traditional hand engine turning and two recessed, polished stars that are the symbol of the house.
