Tensions mount ahead of the publication of the watches going through to the second round of voting in the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix. Plus interviews, factory visits and how to make a Hermès watch strap.

After looking at the entrants in the men’s, artistic crafts, ladies’ high-mech and chronograph categories of this year’s Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix over the past week, we complete our analysis this week with the mechanical exception and calendar categories. As part of our extensive coverage of the event, Carlo Lamprecht, President of the Foundation that organises the Grand Prix, and Carine Maillard, its Director, answered our questions about the changes for this year’s event in an exclusive interview with Brice Lechevalier. As of next week, you will be able to see at a glance all the watches going through to the next round and competing for the coveted Aiguille d’Or trophy in a new dedicated section on WorldTempus.

We will also bring you reports from some of our recent visits to the leading Swiss watch brands. News from the grand opening of the House of Chronoswiss in Lucerne and our visits to the compact and highly efficient factories of Romain Gauthier and Armin Strom follow on from last week’s report on the many stages involved in crafting a leather watch strap at the Hermès workshops in Brügg, near Bienne.
