When the Omega Speedmaster “Day-Date” was created in 1996, it featured an amazing dial design and colour coding. The new Speedmaster « Hodinkee 10th Anniversary » is a tribute to that unique Speedmaster and reimagines the same classic look.
Yet this is not an exact re-creation. While the “triple calendar” complication is no longer featured, there are many other familiar touches that recall the original design. The grey/blue dial includes a distinctive minute track as well as luminous Arabic numerals. Instead of the original day/night indicator, the black and blue subdial at 9 o’clock has been transformed into a useful function indicator with a propeller-shaped hand. The central seconds hand is varnished red and includes a yellow aeroplane tip - a recognisable feature from the “Day-Date” model that has been seen on several Speedmaster designs since the 1970s.
Limited to 500 pieces, the stainless steel watch is driven by the Omega Calibre 1861 and presented on a grey/blue leather strap. On the caseback, Omega has embossed its Seahorse medallion and added a number of engravings, including “Hodinkee” and “10th Anniversary.”
All models will be sold exclusively in Omega Boutiques in the USA and through the Hodinkee website. Each one includes an additional grey NATO strap.
