Our reader's opinion - The Millennium Watch Book
3 minutes read
Readers are heaping praise on watchmaking’s hottest new book and its in-depth coverage of the industry since 2000

Los Angeles, Singapore, Dubai, London, Paris, Geneva… all around the world, the response to The Millennium Watch Book has been unanimously enthusiastic. The book’s size and weight alone are impressive enough, but most of all it’s the wealth and diversity of content that has readers reaching for their keyboards. Deliveries hit a couple of bumps in the road over Christmas when postal services were stretched to the limit, but everything is back on track. And so it is with immense pleasure and pride that we’ve picked some of our favourite readers’ comments to share.

A way with words

Almost 100,000 thoughtfully chosen words (that’s over half a million characters) fill the pages of this encyclopaedia of contemporary watchmaking. Angélique (Switzerland) shares her first, delighted impressions on LinkedIn: “My copy of The Millennium Watch Book, a retrospective of luxury watchmaking in the first two decades of the millennium, arrived this week and it is BIG! In size — 30x40 cm and it weighs a ton! — and of course in content: 300 pages of pure horological delight that I can’t wait to get my teeth into! Bravo Brice Lechevalier for this magnificent book, already a reference work, that will take pride of place on our bookshelves for a long time to come!”. Equally impressed, Timmy (Singapore) writes this: “My book arrived yesterday. I’m awestruck by its weight and by its content. Congratulations and a HUGE THANK YOU!”. In a similar vein, Pierre-André (who intends to treat a couple of watch-enthusiast friends) has this to say: “Woooooooow! The books just arrived and they are incredible, bravo. To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect and I’m impressed!”. David in Paris says, “I got my copy this weekend and WOW! It is truly beautiful. It breathes, it has ambition, it has depth. I can only say one thing: thank you.”

Picture perfect

More than a thousand photos illustrate the 20 themed chapters in this compendium which, says Yohann (Switzerland), reads “like a comic strip”. On Instagram, klickme88 posts several double page spreads from the book with this comment: “The Millennium Watch Book, which covers the past 20 years in watchmaking, has arrived and far exceeds my expectations! It’s a huge book, with high quality print and photos. It’s going to take a while to read all the chapters and the portraits of industry figures, but I know I’ll enjoy every minute. Thank you to the experts and contributors for this exceptional book!”. Writing from the south of France, Paul sends this short email: “Thank you for the book. You’ve done an amazing job. What talent!”.

From Switzerland, Marie sends a salvo of exclamation marks: “BRAVO!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! The book is simply magnificent, beautiful, packed with information!!!!! You guys have done an incredible job! BRAVO!!!! BRAVO!!!!! BRAVO!!!!”. Keith in the United States weighs in with a more understated, “I just wanted to say how well thought-out your book is.” Sadry, who works in watchmaking, shares his reaction: “I’ve been browsing through your book, which just arrived. Bravo. It’s a magnificent volume that takes me back through some wonderful years.” Among the German speakers who ordered the English language version, Konstantinos assures us that the (longer than expected) wait for his book was more than worth it: “I received your book today and, as you can imagine, I’m delighted with it. I already own a number of books on watches but this one is in a class of its own and will last for ever. Thank you again for handling delivery of this extraordinary book!”
