The oceanographer and scientific explorer Richard Limeburner, specialized in marine eco-systems dynamics and is renowned for his research on the Antarctic circumpolar streams. He also discovered two famous wrecks, the Portland, known as ‘The Titanic of New England' (summer of 2002), which had disappeared on November 26, 1898, of Cape Cod, and the Alligator (2005), the first American submarine, built during the Civil War and which sank on April 2, 1863, off the coast of North Carolina.
