The new Magic Haute Joaillerie only reinforces DeLaneau's identity as a contemporay watchmaker of feminine horology with mechanical movements at the heart of each watch.
DeLaneau's Magic Haute Joaillerie is a secret watch and a feat of jewellery engineering. Baguette-cut diamonds or rubies are invisibly set in a spiral on the dome of the case. This spiral-setting is the height of complexity for a number of reasons. Firstly, the gem-setter must find perfectly matching diamonds or rubies that can be cut to the exact shape for the assembly of the dome – notice how the diamond / ruby baguettes are all different shapes and sizes. Secondly, the construction of the dome begins at the bottom and spirals towards the top, leaving no margin for error at the pinnacle of the dome. Other hurdles include the setting of an articulated bracelet whose semi-rigidity creates more challenges for the artisan. In addition to thousands of micro-cut diamonds that decorate the slender, curved arms that embrace the case.
A Question of Time
But where is the dial? It is hidden under the dome of diamonds or rubies and can be revealed by simply sliding the dome to the left or the right. True to its passion for horology, the Magic Haute Joaillerie is powered by a manual winding movement.
