For the first time, Eberhard & Co.’s historic diver, known as the “MCMLIX”, is available in a bronze version (bezel and crown). A choice with maritime accents that will give each example a unique character over time... and with each dive.

Eberhard & Co. is a niche brand, and its collectors appreciate it staying that way: a well-hidden treasure of fine Swiss watchmaking, with deep and ancient roots, and a historic collection still offered at an accessible price. However, the secret is increasingly getting out, notably thanks to the tireless Joël Pynson. The collector-researcher regularly uncovers gems from Eberhard & Co.’s little-known history, notably its jumping-hour and split-seconds chronographs. But the Scafograf, a venerable diver born in 1959, is still largely shielded from the spotlight.

The current Scafograf collection is divided into two ranges: the Scafograf (plain and simple) and the MCMLIX version. Latin scholars will have recognized that this name refers to the reissue of the historic 1959 model, as its name indicates. The La Chaux-de-Fonds brand is now presenting a version with bronze accents.

It joins the “200” range, meaning it is water-resistant to 200 meters, alongside the 300-meter version. For the fifth consecutive year, Eberhard & Co. has chosen the Genoa International Boat Show to unveil it. The piece has one particular feature: it is not entirely made of bronze—only its bezel and crown are.

This choice is unusual. Since bronze is an alloy that ages naturally, these two components will develop their own identity, associated with their owner’s life. The 39 mm steel case, meanwhile, will remain intact. Over the years, each Scafograf 200 MCMLIX Édition Bronze will therefore become unique.

The other exterior elements are those of the 1959 collection. The round and triangular hour markers, as well as the characteristic triangular tip of the hour hand, recall the configuration of the period model. Likewise, the usual first quarter of the minute scale can be found on the unidirectional rotating bezel, with Eberhard & Co. having had the judicious idea of also offering bronze-colored graduations, complemented by vintage-style luminescence on the dial.

Technically, the piece remains equipped with a robust Sellita base, offering approximately 40 hours of power reserve. The case remains protected against helium returning to the surface after a deep dive thanks to a helium valve positioned at 9 o’clock.

The model is offered in three configurations: the new Milanese mesh steel bracelet, the sportier Chassis® steel bracelet, and an elegant water-resistant black leather strap with bronze-colored stitching. On its screw-down caseback, the starfish—the emblematic symbol of the Scafograf—is rendered in 5N gold-colored PVD.
