October 15th and 16th saw the fourth edition of the Straight Egyptian World Championship (SEWC), a horse racing competition exclusively reserved for Arabian stallions and attracting more than 40 horse-owning families.
Christophe Claret exhibited several models in its collection on this occasion, notably the Layla and Mecca watches intended for a Middle Eastern audience.
Layla is the counterpart of Margot, the first ladies’ watch to have won the Ladies’ High-Mech Watch Prize in the 2014 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. With Layla, one can play the same famous “plucking the daisy” game (he loves me a little, loves me lots…), but with texts in Arabic. The main difficulty for this model was to reproduce the randomness of nature. Meanwhile, a mirascope (a kind of hologram) in the dial center of the Mecca model highlights the Kaaba “Sacred Mosque” of the Mecca.
