Founded in 2015, the independent Swiss brand Sequent has revolutionised the smartwatch world by producing the very first completely autonomous smartwatch. Adopting the technique of self-winding mechanical watches using an oscillating weight, the Sequent SuperCharger models charge themselves using the movement of the wrist.
Sequent's goal is technological, but also environmental. In terms of technology, the Supercharger is equipped with the first automatic winding smartwatch movement. It has a specially designed Sequent app that offers all the biometric functions of a smartwatch, GPS, smartphone, and automatic time setting. These data are consolidated in the proprietary biofeedback app, to give a clear and optimal overview of health and performance. On the environmental side, by removing the battery, Sequent is saving the Earth from significant amounts of potentially harmful waste, while offering superior performance at the same time.
A young and modern brand, Sequent has used crowdfounding to develop their products, make themselves known, and sell their first models. In 2017, a Kickstarter campaign was launched and 4000 supporters commited a total of 1.2 millionSwiss francs to Sequent. The following year, delivery of the first SuperCharger1 smartwatches started. Most of them sold out within a few weeks.
Earlier this year, Sequent opened a subsidiary in Taiwan, dedicated to developing the hardware and software for the SuperCharger collection. The brand recently announced the launch of the new SuperCharger2 for next August.
