Time Transforms: Bronze Writes a New Chapter in the Scafograf Collection

The bond between Eberhard & Co. and the world of the sea dates back to the 1930s, when officers of the Italian Royal Navy were accustomed to receiving a Maison chronograph as a distinctive symbol of their role. Since then, this vocation has spanned the decades, finding expression in numerous creations and initiatives.

For the fifth consecutive year, Eberhard & Co. chooses the Genoa International Boat Show as the setting in which to share it with those who experience the sea as a challenge and those who embrace it as an expression of freedom and pleasure, presenting an exclusive timepiece: Scafograf 200 MCMLIX Bronze Edition, a special edition of the Scafograf 200 MCMLIX collection, the evolution of the historic diver line that reinterprets its heritage through a contemporary lens, with a compact 39 mm-diameter case.

Born in 1959, the Scafograf collection is one of the most authentic expressions of this affinity — and this is why bronze, chosen for the bezel and crown of this new edition, becomes its natural interpreter: a material that, like this shared history with the marine world, never remains the same, but transforms over time. Over the years, Scafograf has been renewed through ever-new models, interpretations and solutions; in this special edition, time itself becomes part of the watch’s identity.

Time Becomes Matter

Time transforms, and on bronze this transformation becomes visible. Appreciated for its resistance to corrosion and particularly well suited to diving watches, bronze is also a living material, destined to evolve. Exposure to air, humidity and salt water progressively alters its surface, colour and light, giving rise to a natural patina that protects the metal and makes each timepiece unique.

It is precisely this evolution that makes bronze such a distinctive choice: over time, each watch develops its own individual character, shaped by the use and places experienced by its wearer. A freedom that belongs to the timepiece from the very first day on the wrist, both in and out of the water.

An Unexpected Elegance

While the world of diving watches has traditionally been associated with a distinctly sporty aesthetic, over time Scafograf has also embraced a more versatile dimension, allowing it to accompany its wearer beyond the water without relinquishing its sporty soul. Eberhard & Co. has expanded its possibilities through stylistic and functional choices that highlight its ability to adapt to different settings, with specific colourways and a range of combinations between steel bracelets and straps. The Scafograf 200 MCMLIX Bronze Edition takes this versatility a step further, through a refined aesthetic in which the steel case meets bronze and black in an unusual combination of colours and materials.

The Character of Bronze

The bezel, crafted in bronze like the crown, is completed by a black ceramic insert, characterised by bronze-coloured details and vintage luminescence on the first quarter of the minute scale. The contrast between black and bronze is echoed on the dial, which reprises the graphic elements of the Scafograf 200 MCMLIX collection, enriching them with bronze tones and a peripheral minute scale engraved by laser. The applied indexes and hands feature polished bronze-coloured profiles: the round and triangular indexes, together with the distinctive triangular tip of the hour hand, recall the configuration of the first Scafograf from 1959.

The model is available in three different configurations: the new Milanese mesh steel bracelet, the sportier Chassis® steel bracelet, and an elegant black water-resistant leather strap with bronze-coloured stitching.

The Scafograf Codes

Like the other versions of the Scafograf 200 MCMLIX, this reference is also presented with a 39 mm case, conceived for everyday wear as well as underwater use. The technical features that characterise the collection and are conceived for diving activities remain unchanged: the unidirectional rotating bezel with a sexagesimal scale for measuring dive times, the automatic helium escape valve, the screw-down crown and the domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

As customary, the Maison also pays particular attention to and personalises the less visible details: on the screw-down case back, the starfish — the symbol of the Scafograf — is rendered in 5N gold-coloured PVD, embellishing the watch even in the part that normally remains hidden.
