Meet Walter Ribaga, a watchmaking industry veteran who has just taken the position of CEO at Schwarz Etienne

What first made you interested in the watchmaking business?

When I was a teenager my dream was to work in the sector of international commerce, which would allow me to use my language skills and also travel for business. After my studies, I had the opportunity to have my first sales experience and training at IBM Switzerland, and when I had a job offer from the watchmaking industry in the position of Area Sales Manager for the European market, I leapt at this chance.

What unique quality do you think you bring to Schwarz Etienne?

My experience as commercial director at a movement manufacture, and also my years of helping high-end independent brands develop their international presence.

Tell us about an experience that illustrates your leadership style.

At one of my previous positions, one of my projects was to bring together three well-known master watchmakers to jointly create an exceptional product at the very highest level for a certain brand. The task of uniting these three established names with such strong personalities was challenging, as each of them had their individual vision of product creation. Nevertheless, with much patience, tenacity and tact, I managed to bring this project to a successful end, achieving a great team result in a positive atmosphere.

Which watch do you wear most often, and why?

I always wear a watch made by the brand I currently represent. At the moment, that happens to be a Schwarz Etienne Roswell.

What have you achieved in your professional life that you are most proud of?

To have always contributed to the growth of the brands I work for.

What is the biggest misconception that people have about Schwarz Etienne?

As Schwarz Etienne does not have the fame of some of the bigger watch brands, people don’t really know us that well yet, and they don’t have a clear idea of who we are.

On the other hand, what is one thing about Schwarz Etienne that is not well known, but super important, in your view?

That Schwarz Etienne is an independent watch brand, with its own manufacturing facilities developing its own high-end movements, and, with its subsidiary La Division du Temps, is also successful in the full creation and production of high-end movements and watches for external brands.

Give us a one-word (or one-phrase) hint about your future plans for the brand.

We will continue to surprise our clients with our exceptional products.
