REUGE, leader of luxurious music boxes is known for almost 150 years as the creator of pieces of Art of the Mechanical Music. The wood-inlay (creating a wooden picture on the box by inserting different natural wood pieces like a puzzle) has always been and still is a particular highlight of the finished product. The boxes are of such quality that even world renowned watch and jewelry companies call upon REUGE to create boxes for their fine pieces.
During the BaselWorld 2011 Reuge will present yet another and even more sophisticated way of wood-inlay in its specially dedicated retail space of some 70m2 at the Clarastrasse 43 in Basel – just some 120 m from the main entrance of the BaselWorld (next to the hotel Europe).
In this unique and worldwide first execution, the artists carefully cover the entire space to be worked on with a fine layer of polished brass onto the base wood. Then the actual design is created by putting meticulously small and tiny pieces of wood onto the brass, thus allowing the interesting fusion of wood and brass. This technique allows to create of smaller designs than it ever was possible.
The difference between the brass and the wood is then filled up with a special transparent resin. 15 layers of lacquer are subsequently applied to ensure the famous shine and ever lasting gloss of this REUGE music box.
The very first pieces of this technology just have been shipped to a Head of State who had chosen this contemporary tradition made by Reuge for his closest friends as well as for other visiting Head of States.
