After almost 40 years of absence, the Manufacture des Montres Vulcain is happy to announce its return to the Brazilian market. As of December 1st 2010, the firm in le Locle is strengthening its presence on the American continent by beginning a partnership in Brazil with the prestigious and historical Amsterdam Sauer jewellery company.
Since it was acquired almost a year ago by Excellence Holding, the Manufacture des Montres Vulcain has set itself new goals with a view to global development. One of its clearly stated priorities was an extension of the brand's international distribution network. Currently represented in 170 points of sale spread around forty different countries, Vulcain is now reinforcing its position in the America by making its big comeback to Brazil, one of the brand's historical markets.
Partnering the brand based from Le Locle on the Brazilian market, the prestigious Amsterdam Sauer jewellery company – active in Brazil since 1941 – is initially offering Vulcain watches in two of its most prestigious points of sale in Sao Paulo. “The Presidents' Watch” is thus available in the Iguatemi and Morumbi shopping centres.
This reconquest of an historical market by the Manufacture des Montres Vulcain is an additional step towards the globalisation of the brand. Other market openings are scheduled over the coming months.
About Amsterdam Sauer
Amsterdam Sauer originated with Jules Roger Sauer, a Frenchman who emigrated to Brazil in 1939. In 1941, having become engaged in gemstone trading, he laid the foundations of what was to become the Amsterdam Sauer group. 70 years later, Amsterdam Sauer is a well-known and respected player in the watchmaking and jewellery sector in Brazil. The group has 25 stores in Brazil and in 1989 opened its own museum exhibiting an impressive and unique collection of Rare Minerals and Precious Gems. Amsterdam Sauer is currently headed by the second generation of the Sauer family, and the third generation is already actively involved within the company.
About the Manufacture des Montres Vulcain SA
Headquartered in Le Locle, Vulcain was founded in 1858 and owes its worldwide fame to the first mechanical alarm wristwatch, the legendary cricket. The company has also become famous for the fact that Cricket watches have been worn by a number of American presidents since Harry S. Truman. Furthermore, Vulcain watches were worn during the first ascent of K2 in 1954 and by the Swiss diver Hannes Keller when he set his world record in diving in the 1960s. Vulcain manufactures its own movements and has updated and optimized these over the years. The product range includes five different calibers, so that the company can rightly call itself a manufacturer. Vulcain employs 12 staff members. Bernard Fleury became the CEO in 2001.
