Christie’s Geneva auction - Breguet
A Breguet watch coming from the former collection of Charles-Louis Havas, founder of AFP on sale at Christie’s on May 16th in Geneva.

Christie’s Watch Department offers an exceptional watch signed Breguet et Fils on May 16th at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues in Geneva.
This self-winding quarter repeating watch with equation of time, day, month and power reserve was acquired on December 31st 1817 by Charles-Louis Havas (1783-1858), founder of the famous press agency AFP. Former international merchant who became banker, then journalist and translator, he came up with the concept of an international and universal news agency in 1835, at the age of 52. This man of great taste, from a wealthy family, acquired this 18k golden watch, which reunites the whole savoir faire of the Maison Breguet. It is, indeed, rare to have the opportunity to own such a particular timepiece. It is today considered amongst the most complicated watch ever realized by Breguet following the example of the watch N°144, sold at Christie’s in 2012 at the record price of 3.6 million euros. (Lot 232, sale 1388, CHF 4.3M).
