Bovet unveils a brand-new Miss Audrey Sweet Art collection featuring dials made of crystals of coloured sugar that will have you licking your lips.
Bovet is revered for its métiers d’art dials, mastering numerous traditional techniques in-house such as enamel, miniature painting, guilloché, engraving, and more. So, one of the first questions that came to mind when seeing this new collection is how did they come up with the idea to sprinkle sugar on the dial?
The brand’s founder Pascal Raffy explains, “Whenever I talk with my daughters Audrey and Alexandra, I always call them ‘Mon Coeur’, and ‘Sweetheart’ and I was thinking about how we have the Récital 23 with its heart-shaped hands and how we say in French when we appreciate a human being that ‘son coeur est comme du sucre’, meaning her heart is made of sugar, and I started to think how no one has ever made a dial out of sugar, so I patented using sugar, salt and coffee!”
The Confectionary Process
Bovet’s Sweet Art is a completely new material and patented process that took over a year to perfect. It starts with the sugar crystals that are first prepared so that their structure doesn’t change, even if they are left in the sun, for example. Each crystal is then carefully selected for its size and height (so as not to disturb the passage of the hands), before being coloured with a special paint. Once the crystals are coloured, they are hand-applied to the dial by Bovet’s miniature painting expert.
A Rainbow of Colours
There are a range of different colours to choose from and most change in gradient across the dial, reflecting the light and creating even more intrigue. Shades of orange turn to pink, hues of lime green pass to shades of grass, emerald, and finish with black, creating truly unique pieces as no single dial will ever be the same.
Miss Audrey
The collection comes in the brand’s signature 36mm Miss Audrey case that was last year’s winner in the ladies’ category of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. This new collection comes in stainless steel and with diamonds on the bezel and bow. The Miss Audrey also features the brand’s famous Amadeo system that allows the wristwatch to be easily transformed into a desk clock or a necklace without the use of any tools.
Sweetness is Love
In addition to the sugar dials, two specially-shaped hands form a heart whenever they pass each other on the dial, reminding the owner of how much she is loved, 24 times a day.
