Chanel at Baselworld New timepieces for 2016
Chanel previewed its new timepieces for 2016 as Baselworld opened its doors to a sneak press preview on March 16.
This spring, Chanel has added new features to five of its existing collections adding both edge and glamour to some of its iconic favorites.
The Chanel Boy.Friend watch is back. That elusive man-prize continues to peak the curiosity of women everywhere. Described as always with alluring accolades but never assigned a face, the Chanel Boy.Friend promises to be reliable, quietly virile, square-jawed and most of all, always on time.
With the same rectangular case, the Chanel Boy.Friend has returned this year in four variations, from a manly steel tweed bracelet to a white satin strap but most enigmatically, a more feminine dial covered with diamonds. In the beige gold case - an exclusive alloy that pays tribute to Gabrielle Chanel’s passion for the neutral shade - the timepiece features an entirely pavéd dial, diamond-set bezel and crown, and a high-precision quartz movement. Makes you wonder: has the fantasy Boy.Friend been sneaking into his lady’s jewelry box when no one was looking?
The Boy.Friend Arty Diamonds, glamorous in its fully-paved dial, white gold bezel set with 38 baguette-cut diamonds, and white satin strap, opens new perspectives on the Boy.Friend’s traditional masculinity as Chanel, true to the spirit of the Maison’s founder, blend masculine elements with feminine touches for a cool yet glamorous look.
Another Chanel icon, the Première is also playing dress-up this year in “Pop Rock” colors. Two hot new hues have been added to the mostly black, white and beige Chanel color palette. The Première watch collection, first created by Chanel in 1987 exclusively for women, takes its inspiration in the octagonal shape of the N°5 perfume bottle-stopper and that of the Place Vendôme. Dressed in pink or turquoise, the "Première Rock Pop," released in a limited edition of 1000 in steel with a mother of pearl dial, comes with a triple-row chain bracelet in three sizes, interwoven with pink and turquoise leather ribbon.
For its Mademoiselle Privé line, Chanel deploys once again the talent of its finest master artisans - enamellers, engravers, carvers and stone-setters – to enhance its “Métiers d’Art” tradition in four one-of-a-kind timepieces. Looking again to the coromandel panels that decorate Mademoiselle Chanel’s apartment for inspiration, the new Privé line paints the lightness of birds, flowers and foliage in sculpted gold on onyx dials. Gold is shaped, hand-engraved and oxidized to enhance the natural appearance of the motifs. A new remarkable feature adds complexity to the beauty of the pieces: with each wrist movement, the birds, affixed on a trembler spring, appear to take flight.
New additions to the Chanel line-up will be reviewed in reports to follow.
