Klepcys Chronograph & Klepcys Alarm - Cyrus
5 minutes read
In 2015, Cyrus is all about in-house chronographs and alarms.

Propelled into the horological stratosphere in the first year of the second decade of the third millennium, Cyrus immediately stood out with an authentic and powerful personality that have earned it a number of awards in several countries. Featuring one of the first three-dimensional moon displays, followed in its galactic wake by that of the planet Mars, the Klepcys line rapidly established itself as the most iconic Cyrus model. The history that inspired the Cyrus founders in conveying the brand values is that of Cyrus the Conqueror, whose feats accomplished 2,500 years remain as impressive as ever. Another association that was favorably received by collectors right from the first collections was that with the watchmaker and developer Jean-François Mojon, honored by the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2010, the launch year of the Cyrus brand for which he contributed to creating the first caliber.

The serenity of in-house production

Since then, although very few people are aware of the fact, Cyrus can legitimately claim to rely on an authentic Manufacture employing 70 people in production. In four years, four calibers have thus been made in-house. This autonomy in the realm of movement production is now proving a decisive strategic asset, as well as a guarantee of reliability, continuity and responsiveness on a swiftly evolving market where not all brands can lay claim to such advantages to convince and reassure customers. The construction of a movement implies a number of delicate operations as well as extraordinary expertise. While quality control, decoration, pre-assembly and prototype making are all phases that are relatively easy to grasp in terms of their names, others such as profile turning, milling, burnishing and cutting are more abstract and thus tougher to explain. Mastery of all this entire (non-exhaustive) list of stages gives Cyrus an appreciable degree of serenity when it comes to presenting its new models to its ever more numerous clients as well as in envisaging new products.

An original take on tradition

Presented at Baselworld 2015 in five different versions, the new selfwinding Klepcys Chronograph is above all distinguished by its more smoothly proportioned case and by the original aesthetic distribution of its functions. The vertical display of the chronograph counters along the 12-6 o’clock axis slides under the time indication on the right-hand side of the dial, while the central sceno.ds hand sweeps around the same 3-9 o’clock axis as that of the pointer-type date indication and the running seconds in black and white. On other side of these indications and of the titanium case with its satin-finished and shot-blasted finishes, the two crowns share roles: the start/stop function is controlled via the one on the right to avoid having to shift the position of the fingers, while resetting is done on the left. User friendliness and legibility are matched by comfort on the wrist thanks to a supple rubber strap equipped with a double-blade fine-adjustment system handled with two fingers and no tools. The transparent caseback reveals the exclusive movement produced in cooperation with Jean-François Mojon.

Sound the alarm!

By focusing firmly on innovation and originality, Cyrus places itself in the forefront of technology, as a unique and exclusive player with a strong identity. Its conquering spirit drives it to take risks by looking firmly to the future, while making a point of producing only models reflect in every way its philosophy dedicated to the exceptional. Other parameter intrinsically bound up with its values is the ergonomics of its timepieces – an often underestimated factor that considerably contributes to the pleasure of wearing a watch. Since it primarily represents an emotion, aestheticism is granted the same importance as the  mechanical content of a watch. This DNA is immortalized by the words engraved on the back of Cyrus timepieces “Proudly made for demanding people”.

The double symmetrical crowns that have now become a symbol of Cyrus frames the Klepcys Réveil displaying its smooth and functional indications in an innovative manner. The time function is visually highlighted at 12 o’clock and the day/night aperture is placed at 11 o’clock, while the alarm function performs five-minute jumps along a 24-hour scale (at 4 o’clock). Providing a pleasing visual balance in the lower part of the dial, the alarm hammer and the on/off function are activated by simply pressing the cabochon and sound for 16 seconds. The hands are facetted, shot-blasted and brushed, with a Superluminova tip. The movement of this limited series in steel and titanium was also developed in cooperation with Jean-François Mojon.

The rare partnerships in which Cyrus is involved are also exceptional by nature, whether with the W Motor hyper cars, tightrope artist Freddy Nock, the Monaco-based Star Team for the Children, or more recently with the new brand ambassador Mesut Özil. Arsenal’s superstar soccer player shares with Cyrus the maxim expressed by American poet Robert Forest: “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I – I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” Named player of the year in Germany and winner of the 2014 World Cup, number 11 (and former star striker for Real Madrid) is a humble personality who has gradually forged his career. For Cyrus CEO Ruben Mira, he is an entirely worthy ‘descendant’ of Cyrus the Great.
