The biennial Dubai Watch Week has become an important fixture on the horological calendar. With 45 brands present – including Audemars Piguet, Breitling, Chopard, TAG Heuer, and Rolex – the 2021 edition is set to be bigger and better than it has ever been.
Several watches have crossed our desks over the last couple of weeks, but most of them are still under embargo until the show gets underway, but some brands have already waivered the secrecy. Here are three that really caught our eye.
Breitling Super AVI Collection
Breitling just unveiled its new Super AVI Collection. This totally new line of five watches finds its inspiration in the original 1953 Breitling “Co-Pilot” Ref. 765AVI aviator’s watch as well as four legendary planes – the North American Aviation P-51 Mustang, the Vought F4U Corsair, the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, and the Havilland Mosquito. These pieces bring back a nostalgia for aviation’s past when a watch was not just an accessory, but a tool to rely on.
The Super AVI comes in a 46mm case with an oversized crown and knurled bezel for optimal grip, even with pilot’s gloves on! Other aviation-inspired features include, large, highly legible Arabic numerals on the dial and bezel. The watches are powered by Breitling’s COSC-certified Manufacture Caliber B04 that also includes a handy GMT function.
Greubel Forsey Balancier S2 Limited Edition
Any of you who follow Greubel Forsey on Instagram will have been enjoying some real suspense these last couple of weeks with teasing videos of a suited man with a helmet – think of Top Gear’s The Stig – traveling the world with a briefcase containing the new watch. The build-up has been quite something and its unveiling on Sunday did not disappoint.
The Greubel Forsey Balancier S2 Limited Edition is the first release of the brand’s 2022 collection. The watch isolates the most powerful elements of the original Balancier S and accentuates and modernizes them. It is slightly larger at 46.5mm and comes with a brushed titanium bezel. Note also a new barrel cover with a modern circular pattern designed exclusively for this model. We can’t wait to get our hands on this model!
