The new Scientigraf Chrono is enhanced by the addition of a full chronograph function

Between the end of the 1950s and the beginning of the 1960s, Swiss fine watchmaking began to face a major new challenge: the proliferation of domestic electrical equipment, increasingly present in people's daily lives after the war, was affecting the operation of their precious mechanical watches. Nothing dramatic, but nevertheless, the magnetization of watch components due to their proximity with the now widespread electric fields started to impact the functionality of the watches themselves, compromising the precision of their mechanical movements.

The major Swiss Maisons started competing to create new models immune to such influences, adopting the famous 'Faraday cage' to protect their mechanical movements. The function of the cage, made of ductile iron, was to absorb electromagnetic waves before they could reach the movement of the watch, thus safeguarding its legendary Swiss precision.

This is how Eberhard & Co., always ready to meet the challenges of technical innovation, launched in 1961 one of the antimagnetic models that would become an icon for this market segment, the well‐known Scientigraf.

Nowadays, in the era of ubiquitous electronics, the potential sources of magnetism in everyday life are probably multiplied a thousand times compared to the post‐war period. However, this has certainly not discouraged enthusiasts of fine watchmaking mechanics, who would not dream ofsacrificing the opportunity to wear their micro‐mechanical masterpieces.

As a result of Eberhard & Co.'s relaunch of Scientigraf in 2021, this niche market gained new momentum, fulfilling a widespread need and achieving enormous success at the same time thanks to its extremely attractive aesthetics.

The slightly vintage look, characterized by prominent luminescent indices against a matt black background and highly visible hands, captivated many fans of the retro genre, who today, for the first time, have the opportunity to choose this particular timepiece in a chronograph version.

As well as having all the features of the 'time only' version, the new Scientigraf Chrono is enhanced by the addition of a full chronograph function, with two counters, enriched by azuré finishing added to the traditional black dial. The specially designed metal cage is hosted within the 41mm steel case, which alternates glossy and satin finishes. The screw‐down case back is decorated with the original drawing of the 1961 model.

Scientigraf Chrono comes with a steel bracelet featuring a 2Click® closure, or with a strap in natural leather.
