Dragon Automaton - Jaquet Droz
Jaquet Droz X John Howe

Three years of work; a unique watch industry collaboration; a tailor-made creation: by teaming up with John Howe, artistic designer of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, Jaquet Droz has brought to life the marvelous, the emotional, and above all the unique.

With a total of nine animations involving 16 components, this is probably one of the most complex modern automaton watches ever conceived. The animation sequence is random in order to preserve all its magic and mystery. The body of the sacred animal undulates as does its tail; its eye and jaw open and close; its tongue moves; its crest rises and falls; its claws grasp the constantly rotating pearl of wisdom.

The 43mm case is available in the gold of one's choice, in sapphire or in another material imagined by the future owner. On the gold version, the case middle can be engraved or left free. The solid dial can be fully customized, engraved or replaced by a medallion in a choice of stone.

The full sapphire model is a very different 45mm variation. The creation of such a 100% sapphire case could also be regarded as a true modern art form given the challenges involved in its design and machining. The initial shimmer of gold is replaced by the absolute transparency of sapphire. The case is all but forgotten, resulting in a sense of wearing the Dragon directly on the skin. The mythical animal literally emerges from the dial, whose mineral composition or engraving can always be customized. The entirely hand-engraved gold Dragon may feature more or less accentuated scales. It would be impossible to list the almost limitless set of options. Through this timepiece, Jaquet Droz embodies the Philosophy of the Unique that has consistently guided its inherently disruptive nature since 1738.
