Dōdekal One – D110 - MCT
1 minute read
To mark its tenth anniversary, MCT presents the Dōdekal One, the first mechanical watch featuring an innovative digital hours display in the centre of the dial.

MCT founder Denis Giguet and CEO Pierre Jacques hesitated between red and white as the color in which to present this major world premiere at Baselworld, but in the end they opted for the more legible version featuring a white hours indication. It is however not too late to ‘see red’ and order a personalized interpretation. Whatever the shade chosen, the Dōdekal One clearly perpetuates the MCT credo of inventing original time indications powered by Manufacture movements. The in-house developed MCT-D1 caliber is the first ever movement driving a mechanical digital display in the dial center. While the hours appear in turn through the central aperture, minutes are read off in a more traditional manner by means of the hand positioned on a sapphire disk and pointing towards the peripheral minute track.

This entirely original approach is a mechanical nod to the electronic watches of the 1970s and results in lingering visual pleasure, since the switch to the next hour on the Dōdekal One takes place smoothly over 2.5 seconds. This transition is effected by the translational motion of dedicated carriages guided by a circular cam. The exceptional amount of energy involved in this process called for the development and construction of an innovative regulating organ. Marking the 10th anniversary of MCT, the case of the Dodekal One is clearly inspired by that of the first Sequential One, while incorporating updated design features notably including more seamlessly integrated curving lugs. Two 25-piece limited series are planned for the Dōdekal One, and the very mention of the word One implies the possibility of Two ! Numerically yours...
