The new gem-set 34mm models in the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra collection leave nothing to be desired…

The best thing about the new Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 34mm models is how completely conceived they are. If you’ve come across as many female-targeted timepieces as I have, you’ll realise quickly that there always seems to be a compromise somewhere. If a so-called women’s watch scores high in the design department, there’s a high likelihood that the mechanical side is lacking. If it’s mechanically impressive, the design might be a let-down. Or perhaps it bears little connection to the fascinating history and identity of the brand. Or perhaps it’s just that little bit too large, placing it out of the optimal zone for a smaller wrist. Whatever it is, there’s always something. My colleagues and peers have told me I’m picky. I’m not picky, merely observant.

Seamaster Terra Aqua

That’s why the new gem-set models in Omega’s Seamaster Aqua Terra collection are so satisfying. They come in a bi-metal combination of stainless steel and Sedna gold, making them extremely versatile across formal or casual contexts. Sedna gold is Omega’s proprietary alloy of pink gold, containing a small percentage of palladium. Unlike most conventional pink-gold alloys, which tend to lose their pink hue over the years, Sedna gold retains its colour over extended periods of time.

Inside these models is the Omega in-house cal. 8800, with the brand’s proprietary Co-Axial Escapement beating at its heart, which brings several advantages to the watch. Movements with this escapement are not only more efficient, they require less lubrication for the regulating organ, resulting in longer service intervals and stronger long-term performance. Furthermore, the cal. 8800 is a certified Master Chronometer, guaranteeing its accuracy and timekeeping that exceeds industry standards. (And there’s a five-year warranty to back it up.)

Seamaster Terra Aqua

The design itself is exceptional, incorporating key Seamaster aesthetic features such as the arrow-tipped hand, the beautifully proportioned case dimensions (particularly in those bevelled lugs), and textured dial. The 34mm diameter is an encouraging and delightful statement that fine watchmaking has a place even on the most petite wrists, in an industry that mostly operates on the principle that serious horology is a boys-only club. Lastly, while diamonds aren’t really my thing, I really appreciate the additional sparkle that they bring to the watch. People often say you can’t have everything you want in life. That may be true in many situations, but it certainly isn’t true for the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 34mm.
